Malolo's Silica Gel / Desiccant Containers
cults3d
I designed this silica gel container primarily because I was dissatisfied with several existing options, so I decided to create my own based on my needs. I had printed a few containers myself but found they didn't meet my expectations either. Designing things is an enjoyable experience that I unexpectedly discovered after purchasing my 3D printer. These were the goals I aimed to achieve: The silica gel I purchased consists of small pieces, especially when broken, so I designed walls with narrow gaps to allow ample air flow while keeping them secure. Slots seemed more suitable than holes for this requirement, and I added a hole at the bottom that includes air slots as well. I wanted opening it to be quick but also difficult to open accidentally. A screwable lid appeared to be the best choice for this. It should fit inside a filament spool easily. Printing it should be simple with no need for supports. The container needed to be reasonably sturdy yet not waste too much filament. There are three variants: NoCore, HalfCore, and FullCore. Each variant comes in four different sizes, all with a 50mm diameter, but varying heights of 30mm, 50mm, 75mm, or 100mm including the lid. The lid is identical for all sizes; however, the FullCore variants have their own lids with holes in the center. To aid filling the FullCore containers with silica gel, I also created a center plug and a screw-on funnel. Updates: 2019-04-20: I changed the threads on all containers and lids to produce better print results at layer heights above 0.15mm (tested up to 0.3mm). 2019-04-01: NoCore and FullCore variants were added, along with a funnel and center plug.
