Malokal – paint robot

A painting robot was developed within our university project that I spearheaded. The robot's processing program takes in data from vector graphics or our own artwork, efficiently calculating every detail. Our project documentation can be found on this website: http://www.mintgruen.tu-berlin.de/robotikWiki/doku.php?id=projektews1415:malokal. We chose to use the latest technology, which is why I designed the robot with interchangeable components that fit various printer sizes. Our design was created for a fully printed base plate that could fit any print bed perfectly. Later on, we updated the design and separated the base into different parts, each with a distinct function. The motors are high-performance stepper motors attached to custom wheels. We also used furniture casters at the rear to make our robot highly maneuverable. A special carriage in the center holds the pen, allowing for smooth movement up and down thanks to an advanced sliding system that uses a servo motor to control its height. To accommodate pens of different diameters, we built a versatile mount on which various sizes from 1mm to 20mm can be easily installed.
