From a grand relief, possibly a magnificent imago clipeata (a prestigious circular shield). The stern austerity and self-discipline emanating from the face, coupled with striking similarities to Julius Caesar's distinctive features, strongly imply a prominent public figure, perhaps an accomplished politician. Discovered in the Roman agora (forum) area, which lends credence to the theory that it was connected to a notable honorary monument. Its outstanding quality suggests that it may be the work of a skilled Attic workshop.
