Samples of skinned marten heads were gathered from Alberta trappers for use in training exercises. The Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Innovation at Lethbridge College kindly generated 3D images of the marten to utilize as educational tools in future trapper education courses. Examining the degree of muscle coalescence on top of their heads after they are skinned enables a trapper to accurately report age class (adult or juvenile) of their catch. Combining the age of harvest with trapper effort over time will facilitate assessment of marten population status and trends.
