A typical 2-row 2.54mm ribbon-cable connector is female. That is, the part on the cable has holes, the part on the PCB has pins.
I needed a special application where where the part on the cable has the pins. Those are rare to get.
However dupont jumper cables with both male and female connectors are very inexpensive and easily available.

This 3D print is a housing, that fits on dupont jumper cables with male pins to connect it to a female IDC connector. Useful to extend a cable or to experiment. If you tug many jumpers into a dangling connector, they may easily come lose when the cable moves around. With this housing they are kept firmly in place.

Print from TPU to have a firm grip on the jumper cables.

The design was made with FreeCAD and the number of pins is somewhat parametric.
To change the number of pins:

start with the 26pin version,

open the jumperbox sketch, click open the dimension of the inner width

edit the 13 in the formula to your size.

open the ceiling sketch, remove excess slots, (or add more)

open the IDC-box sketch, click open the dimension of the inner width

edit the 13 in the formula to your size.

the Chamfer may fail after editing. Either adjust or simply remove it.

Category: Electronics
