Maestro Mateo and His Workshop\nAround 1200\nGranite\nThe sculptures identified with representations of the Prophet Malachi and Saint Mark the Evangelist form part of a set of pieces that crowned the exterior facades of Master Mateo's choir, which after its demolition ended up placed on the facade of the Holy Door. In this case, they are located at the top of the last stretch of the right side of said facade. \nMalachi, "the messenger of God," the last prophet of the Old Testament, formed part of a group of minor prophets located in the last stretch of the northern facade of the choir, alongside Zachariah, Haggai and a fourth figure that has not been preserved. He stands out for his hood, bold posture and, as is usual in his iconography, a wide placard that, in this case, he holds with his right hand. \nSaint Mark, along with the rest of the Evangelists, would be located on the last stretch of the facade of the southern side of the Mateo choir, in this case, deploying a long vertical placard.
