Makruk Thai Chess Set

Makruk ====== Makruk is a Thai game of strategy and skill that bears a striking resemblance to the classic board game of chess. The ultimate objective, much like its more famous counterpart, is to put the opponent's monarch into checkmate, but Makruk has its own unique twist on piece movement and starting configuration. To help you modify or remix this set, we have included STL files and FreeCAD project files. Pieces & Movesets: ------------------------- * Cowry Shell (Pawn): This piece begins on the third rank and moves like a traditional chess pawn until it reaches the sixth rank, at which point it is elevated to Makruk "queen" status by simply flipping the piece over. From this point forward, it has the same move set as the Makruk queen described below. These pieces are also ideal for checkers sets since they can be promoted without requiring spare or stacked pieces. * Horse (Knight): This piece boasts the same move set and starting position as its chess counterpart. * Boat (Rook): The makruk rook has the same move set and starting position as the traditional chess rook. * Nobleman (Bishop): This piece can move one position along any diagonal, in addition to moving forward by one space. Like chess, it begins on a specific square on the board. * Seed (Queen): With a more limited range than its chess counterpart, the makruk queen can only move one position along any diagonal. It always starts the game to the right of the king, setting it apart from traditional chess where the queen sits on her designated color. * Feudal Lord (King): The Makruk king has the same move set as its chess counterpart.
