Makita offers this storage container product with or without the matching insert boxes. It's cheaper than the usual organizer of this kind, and interlocks with other toolboxes as well. The container's internal structure provides the usual grid system that is similar to other solutions like Festool, or even Gridfinity. While the organizer body itself is great, I think they are missing an opportunity to provide better and more variety of inserts . As you can buy the container body empty, it's a completely valid option to print the inserts yourself.Printable partsStorage boxes1x1 half height storage box - not available from Makita, print it yourself!1x1 full height - this one you can buy, but the bottom of the box is raised in the original product, so you're wasting about 30% space. This version gives you the full volume.2x1 half height - not available from Makita2x1 full height - this one is identical to the original one2x2 half height - not available from Makita2x2 full height - this one is identical to the original one3x1 full height - I'm not sure this one exists in Makita world, but hey3x2 full height - this one is identical to the original one3x3 full height - this one is identical to the original one4x1 full height - not available from Makita, print it yourself!4x2 full height - not available from Makita, print it yourself!4x3 full height - this is ridiculous, why would anyone want this? :)4x4 full height - this is ridiculous, why would anyone want this? :)Subdividers or insertsThere are four versions right now. I only made these available for the 1x1 storage boxes, as you can subdivide a 2x1 box by using two 1x1 ones instead :)Lower divider - with half and with quarter subdivisionUpper divider - with half and with quarter subdivision (there are no dividers for the larger boxes right now)Filament usedPETG is ideal for this print, as it provides a little bit of flexibility. PLA is fine, but as this is a relatively thin structure, it might be a bit too brittle. In terms of colors, PETG Ocean Blue (or Gentleman's Grey PLA) is the closest to the original color. For the inserts Jet black goes nicely with the Makita aesthetic.I have yet to test PCCF for the inserts. Yes, it's more expensive, but they are few grams a piece, so it's doable.Print settingsYou can print all models upright, with the default settings. For the boxes you have turn supports on as the bottom of the boxes are floating in the air. For the inserts you do not need any support. As far as the print surface adhesion goes, the boxes are a bit tricky to print, because the area they have on the surface is very small. I recommend using brims if you have problems with adhesion. For me, the smooth PEI sheet was a little bit too much adhesion, I had separation problems after the print using PETG. PLA is fine.Future plansI have a few more complex-shaped pieces that you'd be able to insert into the unused spaces around the container to get a bit more storageI'll publish solid body version of the inserts, so you can carve out your own custom inserts from it. (there is an example I already published which is an sd-card holder)I only published smaller sizes for the boxes, but my design is parametric, so let me know if you need more of these! I still think that the larger ones are easier to buy than to printI have some reinforcement pieces in the works, for the hinge and the corners.Nameplates for the outsideOriginal productOriginal product to be extended:https://www.makitatools.com/products/details/191X80-2
