I wanted to buy a hood for my thickness planer but was taken aback by the price and had another problem - my planer is oriented differently so the hood exit would be in front of my machine. So I designed a custom hood that fits perfectly on your planer at a fraction of the original cost. Important: The STL files are drawn exactly as the original Makita hood, if you prefer the exit to face the opposite direction, simply flip it in your slicer. My Prusa's bed is too small to print the entire hood in one piece, so I sliced it into two parts and printed it upside down (see pic). This approach also results in a very smooth interior surface. After printing, I cleaned the hood with sandpaper and glued it together using fast glue, securing it with clamps. Once dry, I used my 3D-Pen to "weld" over the seam by applying ABS settings to PLA filament, then pushing the nozzle into the seam and slowly filling it with material. After welding, I sanded everything until very smooth and then treated it with acetone to achieve an even smoother finish. I also created a matching elbow that fits perfectly on the hood. To prevent the elbow from falling off, I added a small rim. When mounting the elbow, let its exit point face in the opposite direction as intended, then drill a 2.5mm hole and insert a screw with a 4mm head. Rotating the elbow freely ensures it won't come loose.
