PA18 18V Drill Gets a New Lease on Life with LXT Adaptor
After months of tinkering, I'm thrilled to unveil the final version of this innovative adaptor. This nifty device enables you to harness the power of newer Li-ion batteries with your trusty old PA18 Ni-Cd Makita drill. I put this adaptor through its paces using a budget-friendly Chinese LXT clone battery (available at Banggood), and I'm confident it will perform flawlessly with genuine Makita batteries, which I'll source in due course. To assemble the adaptor, you'll need a compact 0.28mm voltage tester and an SPDT push switch if you want to display the voltage reading. You'll also require some M3 Hex head screws (2x16mm, 2x20mm) and M3 nuts. Don't forget to grab the official Makita LXT terminal part number #643852-2, which is surprisingly affordable on eBay. Be aware that the clips might be a tad too effective; I had trouble removing the adapter myself! The PA18 Insert "The Stick" features 8mm x 0.5mm x 100mm nickel spot welding strips (cut in half) and requires some soldering to connector spades. Remember to use the central channel to cross over the cables, as + and - are reversed on the PA18 compared to the LXT. ![Tony](https://www.amerrigan.co.uk/imgz/avatar0001.jpg "Signature")
