Makibox X and Y bearing carriage
thingiverse
Gday, I've made some headway with my Makibox, and right now I have one up and running. I was dealing with Y axis lagging issues when I discovered the Makibox open source on bitbucket - specifically the carriage part at https://bitbucket.org/makible/5dprint-a6-3d-printer/. That one looked more recent than what shipped with my box, so I took a look around some more. I found a branch by Cassidy S over at https://bitbucket.org/cassidy_s/5dprint-a6-3d-printer-pom_bearing_inserts-default-screw/src/, and that version had the right thread for both X and Y axes. Using eDrawings Solidworks Viewer to export as STL, then resizing with 123D, helped clean up some parts and make sure they fit. Now my new axis has zero tolerance though, so after printing in PLA, I lit a lighter to help the bearings screw in place and those Y rods slide tight into position - it's pretty stiff but will ease off in time (roughly four hours of heating up to make them align). Resulting Y axis is way more stable now. You're all free to experiment with this setup - just don't forget to let everyone know how things go if they end up working out! Printer Details Machine: Dremel Idea Builder Infill Setting: 40% Post-Printing Tasks Used a heat gun and lighter to smooth out some tricky bits. This build went together as you'd expect - all pretty standard. Check it out from any angle, that's where the moving carriages go for both axes. Take off end cap to have a closer look. That's the final assembly right there!
