MakerTree 3D: Encapsulated Lightbulb
thingiverse
I'm messing around with some fresh concepts by exploiting the see-through qualities of those transparent resins we've been working on. After giving them a good sanding and polish, the potential outcomes are mind-blowing. I quickly knocked out this design in AutoDesk 123D Design and got it printed out on our Form1+ printer. I went with Spot-A clear HT resin for the bulb portion and MadeSolid general purpose black resin for the base - both were printed at a precision of 100 microns. Once printing was done, the bulb portion got some serious TLC with sanding sessions using 220, 320, 600, 1200, and finally 2000 grit sandpaper. Then it was time to give it a show-stopping shine with all three grades of Novus plastic polish - no buffing wheel left behind! Next up is hooking a small LED bulb through a custom-designed channel in the back of the base and up into the bottom of the bulb portion for an extra-dramatic light effect. The spotlight's on this project now!
