TIRED OF YOUR Z-AXIS CRASHING DOWN WHEN YOUR PRINT IS COMPLETE. WHAT YOU NEED IS THE AFFORDABLE PORTABLE Z-AXIS BRAKE SYSTEM FROM SLIP-CO. NOW FOR THE LOW, LOW PRICE OF NOTHING, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE FILES AND PRINT THE PARTS TO MODIFY YOUR M2 TO THE SEXY YET FUNCTIONAL Z-AXIS BRAKE SYSTEM. Some additional parts are required: You will need 7 to 10 8MM X 3MM N50 magnets. If you search for "8MM X 3MM N50" on eBay, they are cheap and plentiful. You will need a 8-32 set screw 3/8 - 1/2 inch long to go in the cross hole on the handle to keep it from spinning off. (It is better to tap the hole before putting the screw in.) Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerGear Printer: M2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2 Infill: 25% Notes: Printed in PLA. I have found that when printing threads, PLA works well. Also, PLA is high strength, and this application is not a high temp or outside application, so it works well. Post-Printing Installation: After your parts are done, you will need to put 6 of the magnets in the base. Make sure they are all facing the same way so when another magnet is passed over them, they all either repel or attract. Place 1 to 3 magnets in the bottom of the handle. I found that 1 sufficed on my setup with a Mic 6 plate, but you may need more based on your setup to keep the axis from falling. Be sure that when you put the magnet in the handle, it is facing the direction that it will be attracted to the all-plastic side of the base. Put your 8-32 set screw in the knob. It is better to tap the hole first. Install with the base with magnets facing down. Screw the knob on to the z-axis shaft. Be sure that it is loose to the base and secure with the set screw. When running, it makes a clicking sound. If you modify the base to be a tight fit with your machine, you can make this go away. I built the added clearance in so it would fit everyone's machine. I have included the design files to aid in this change. Feedback is appreciated.
