MakerGear M2 LocLine Raspberry Pi Camera mount for OctoPrint OctoPi or Astroprint
thingiverse
I'm using OctoPrint to run my MakerGear M2. I wanted to mount the Pi in a position that gives me a good view of the part so I can remotely monitor it effectively. The mounts available on Thingiverse were fairly large or tended to hold the camera in a bad position, or both, which wasn't ideal. This mount is very simple, just two small pieces that print quickly and work with readily available 1/4" LocLine - it's essential to buy the genuine stuff, not the Asian knockoff. The Pi/Camera can be easily positioned in any orientation without wobbling around. The base piece is held to the MakerGear frame with a single M3 screw, one washer, and one Nylok nut. The VESA mount is secured to the RasPi case with four 3mm screws and Nylok nuts. I printed the mounting post (base) in ABS and the X-shaped part in PLA. The nut recesses are intentionally a little snug so that the nuts don't fall out accidentally. For the VESA part, just give each a gentle squeeze with pliers to seat them properly. For the other piece, use the M3 screw with washer to draw the nut into its hole. Then gently remove the screw without displacing the nut. Snap it onto the locline then position on machine and tighten the nut without knocking it out of its hole. It's very easy, more trouble to describe than to do successfully. Enjoy! Works with these stunningly beautiful Raspi Cases: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:922740 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:608169 Genuine LocLine is available at a low price on Amazon if you don't have any: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006R9O3HE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00 These pliers make assembly/disassembly easier but aren't really necessary if you have enough hand-strength to open tight peanut butter jars. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006R9OT8M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00
