This system is comprised of components designed to convert the MakerGear M2 into utilizing the Flexion extruder combined with the E3D-V6 hot end, allowing for printing of extremely soft flexible materials using the Flexion extruder on the M2. The mounting bracket was machined out of aluminum and perforated with 6.35 mm holes in order to minimize weight while maximizing rigidity. The bracket can potentially be printed from a variety of hard materials with similar results. Key features include: - The bed fan rotates freely for easy removal, exchange, and inspection of E3D hot ends. - The clamp part securely holds the E3D fan, eliminating E3D's fragile duct. - 25 and 30 mm long socket head screws are required to assemble the bed fan and motor/clamp. - All parts except the mounting bracket were printed from PETG at .20 mm resolution. - All parts necessitated drilling, tapping, or sanding to some extent in order to allow for proper fits. - The clamp part also features magnets that hold a dial indicator for bed leveling (not shown) without requiring any disassembly. - The M2 extruder motor must be replaced with a NEMA 17, 1.8°, stepper motor boasting a minimum torque rating of 0.2 N.m - The "E" stepper value in the firmware needs to be adjusted to approximately 100 and fine-tuned accordingly. - The MakerGear wire harness box was modified to attach to the motor retainer. - The motor retainer holds the motor in place when the clamp is removed. This conversion of the M2 requires considerable design time and expertise, making it not recommended for novice printers. The primary motivation behind this modification was the ability to print 60A TPU's and significantly enhance the capabilities of the M2.
