Makergear M2 Drawing Attachment (The Scribbler)

Makergear M2 Drawing Attachment (The Scribbler)

myminifactory

This is a custom drawing attachment designed specifically for the Makergear M2 Printer.\r\nFirst, A Word of Caution........\r\nPlease note that this is an experimental design still in development (I'm posting it here at your request). This attachment is intended for advanced users only and requires a high level of expertise with the M2 printer. You'll need to know how to adjust and calibrate your Z-stop, as well as understand G-code editing and slicer settings.\r\nIf you're not an experienced printer user, please refrain from attempting to use this attachment - I take no responsibility for any issues that may arise from using this information.\r\nThat said........\r\nVideos of the scribbler in action can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9RF_GtY0rE and here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-wAcamFsb4\r\nTo assemble the attachment, you'll need five M3x8 screws.\r\nThe filament mount is removed and replaced with this scribbler attachment.\r\nI won't be providing a comprehensive guide just yet, but I will offer some key tips for now....\r\nThe line drawings used in this design were sourced from Google and converted to SVG files, which were then imported into Tinkercad to create STL files (see http://3dprinting.com.au/converting-images-into-3d-models/)\r\nThere are two mounting inserts - one for a standard Sharpie and the other for a fine-tip Sharpie. You may need to sand the markers to ensure they fit properly in their respective mounts.\r\nTo use the markers, simply slide up your entire Z-stop bracket and switch to prevent the hotend from touching the bed.\r\nWhen setting the marker height, start drawing and then pause the program while holding the Z-stop knob steady. Insert the marker into its mount until it reaches the paper, then secure it with the front M3 screw.\r\nTo get your printer up and running, add the M302 command to your starting script and remove any unnecessary commands (such as whip commands or purges). I also recommend adding around 5mm of Retraction Vertical Lift under the extruder tab so that the drawing tool is picked up smoothly when moving.\r\nThe pen insert utilizes a cartridge and spring from a G2 gel pen. Insert the spring first, followed by the pen cartridge - this will create a spring-loaded effect for better drawing performance. Make sure to set your printer's Retraction Vertical Lift to 5mm if it starts on the build plate, or the pen will hit the surface during its first move.\r\nWhen preparing your print job, I recommend setting the layer height to .1 and the stop printing height to match. This will ensure that only one layer is drawn at a time. Set both top and bottom layers to 0 and outline shell to 1 for optimal results. Experiment with extrusion multipliers and preview windows until you achieve a single line for all elements in your design. If you want to fill in the space between lines, use 100% infill (as shown in the skull example).
