MakerFarm Pegasus Lead Screw Mounts
thingiverse
These brackets are engineered to mount 8mm lead screws securely to the MakerFarm Pegasus. Having the 10" version with metal motor mounts and X-carriage, I haven't had a chance to test them on other sizes yet. However, based on pictures, they should work just fine. I'd love to hear your feedback if you've got any experience with them. I originally purchased the ACME Lead Screw Upgrade kit from Colin at MakerFarm, but there were some issues that didn't sit well with me: The provided nut blocks are very tight and don't spin easily, even after a month of use and running them through a drill as recommended. The Pegasus' X-axis extrusions aren't long enough to mount the nut blocks correctly without those awkward and frustrating extensions. The nut blocks are mounted so low on the X-axis that they nearly hit the motor coupler when the Z-axis is at Z0. This caused some weird Z ringing at lower print heights on my printer since it's hard to get the lead screws perfectly vertical. This mod uses 8mm brass lead screw nuts to try and fix all of the above issues. I used these, but there are tons just like them available on Amazon and eBay. If your printer is still using 5mm threaded rods, you can still upgrade to lead screws with this mod; you'll just need to source the following: 8mm lead screws and nuts (I recommend ~400mm for the 10" Pegasus) 8mm to 5mm flexible coupler It'll probably end up being cheaper than purchasing the MakerFarm kit. Print Settings: Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 50+% Post-Printing Assembly: The lead screw nuts mount to the bracket using 3x3mm bolts with a lock nut. The bracket mounts to the top of the x-axis vslot rail using 2x5mm bolts and 2x t-slot nuts. Keep them loose until you get the lead screw perfectly aligned, then tighten them down. Note: I had to swap the direction of the bolts on the delrin wheels that hold the x-axis to the z-axis. I probably just did this wrong when I built it, but you may run into it as well.
