MakerFarm i3v X-axis Belt Mount

MakerFarm i3v X-axis Belt Mount

thingiverse

This improved mount is designed to make attaching the x-axis belt to the x-carriage on MakerFarm i3v-series printers much easier. The shaped posts provide a secure way to wrap the belt ends, while clips are included for slipping over the ends. The initial version of the mount can be seen in the gallery picture attached to an i3v carriage plate without the cover plate installed. The original design was meant to work with the OEM x-carriage plate provided by MakerFarm and uses the standard 50mm hole separation. Revision A introduces a custom configuration that moves the carriage plate attachment holes closer to the edge of the x-carriage plate (64mm hole spacing), while also centering them in the vertical height of the belt mount. This new configuration is intended for use with a custom-made x-carriage plate and not the OEM one provided by MakerFarm. Revision A also includes various other changes made to the openSCAD file, such as changes to tailoring and usage information, which are included in the comments section at the beginning of the openSCAD file. Additionally, multiple STL files are provided, including belt_post.stl for shaping a subcomponent that is imported into the openSCAD file. Place the belt_post.stl file in the same folder/directory as the xbelt_mount_revA.scad file, and it does not need to be sliced or printed separately. File xbelt_mount_revA_i3v_50mm.stl contains the basic belt mount plate for use with OEM MakerFarm x-carriage plates. File xbelt_mount_kit_revA_i3v_50mm.stl includes two additional items: belt clips, a cover plate, and an optional shim spacer for use with the x-idler pulley. Similarly, file xbelt_mount_revA_64mm.stl is used as a basic belt mount plate for custom x-carriage plates. File xbelt_mount_kit_revA_64mm.stl provides everything in xbelt_mount_revA_64mm.stl but also includes the shim and cover plate along with an optional shim spacer. The provided thickness of the shim spacer has been optimized for use with my remix of the i3v idler pulley available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:790138. Refer to the comments at the beginning of the openSCAD file for further information, but keep in mind that this mount does require a longer belt than would originally have been used on the i3v printer. As an optional addition, see my y-axis belt mount available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:796250. Instructions In-depth instructions are also found in the openSCAD script. When creating this product, pay attention to the formed teeth of the belt posts and ensure minimal stringing is present between them.
