This provides a protective cover for the terminal block area of a MeanWell-type power supply when it is mounted directly to the MakerFarm i3v frame. The cover requires two holes to be drilled into the i3v frame to function properly as mounting holes. Although the openSCAD design can be modified to suit other applications, the provided STL design assumes the power supply has been relocated to a custom set of M4 mounting holes elevated approximately 28mm from the standard position. The Printbus i3v build repositioned the power supply in order to create more room for wiring at the bottom of the power supply. The print includes hole options for a power cord cable clamp (Heyco 6W-1 used for the pattern) and a miniature toggle switch with a 1/4-inch bushing. It also includes an option for generating 4.6mm high spacer shims to raise the power supply off the mounting surface, enhancing airflow and wire routing underneath the power supply. M4x16 screws with a washer under the screw head will work in conjunction with the 5mm thread engagement limit of a MeanWell power supply. The cover design presumes terminal wiring is oriented downward toward the i3v frame. The cover is designed to sit directly on the top side of the power supply terminal block. In the Printbus i3v build, the power supply was repositioned to a custom set of mounting holes, which elevated it approximately 28mm to improve access and routing at the bottom of the power supply. It also moved the power supply backward by about 6mm to enhance airflow and wire routing options along the forward side of the power supply. The cover design takes into account this repositioning of the power supply. Customization may be necessary to use the cover with a power supply in its original MakerFarm location. The openSCAD script includes suggestions for dimensional tailoring for use with a MeanWell power supply in the original MakerFarm location. The Printbus universal post creator is utilized for adding mounting posts to the cover plate. This script can be accessed via http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:790359. Edit the power supply openSCAD script to match the folder location where you copied uPost.scad. The mounting posts are designed to accept direct threading of M3 screws, making M3x10 to M3x16 suitable options. To locate necessary holes on the i3v frame, tape was applied to the wood surface, temporarily holding in place the cover and then tracing around where it met the tape. Oversized holes were drilled at the center of these markings for each post. The design was successfully tested on an 8-inch i3v printer purchased in early 2014. The openSCAD script includes detailed instructions as well.
