Makerfarm i3v 10" Y-Bed & Y-axis Belt clamp
thingiverse
I wanted to design a test part in plastic before getting an aluminum bed cut back in December, but I put the idea aside for a couple of months after completing it. After seeing a thread on 3dprintboard about cutting a 12" aluminum bed, I revived my interest and re-examined the design, concluding that it could be feasible to create a working plastic y-bed in two parts. This is the first released version of this design. I still have plenty of room for improvement in this design, but it suits my needs so far. Since only one print has been completed with this new setup and no testing has been done at high temperatures, hopefully, the insulation and brass will provide enough support in a heated environment. To create the y-axis belt clamp, I used an idea from: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:643799, while also starting to utilize an image idea from: http://3dprintboard.com/showthread.php?12018-10-quot-Y-Plate. Prior to disassembling your printer, make sure the z-axis is elevated at least 40-50mm. Take note of how high your bed was initially so that you can adjust your z-limit switch accordingly. When removing the old bed, keep in mind that you will need support for the aluminum extrusions from both sides with two 2x2x6" boards to avoid damage. Also mark where the y-axis limit switch is before removal and note the orientation of the limit switch bolt.
