Makerbot Y idler support
thingiverse
Improve your Makerbot's Y idler pulley stability with this build! The original design leaves much to be desired, as the baseplate can flex, affecting tension adjustment, and the bare plastic pulley on a metal axle may cause noise over time. This modification involves a bracing arm that attaches to a Y rail using existing hex nuts, requiring longer screws for fitting. Two bearings are included in the design for smoother pulley rotation. However, be warned that this is an experimental piece with tight clearances; trimming may be necessary. To install: press bearings into place, remove the idler bolt, insert it through bearings and pulley with a nut to secure, then attach the support to the right-side Y axis rod on your Makerbot. Reassemble, adjust tension, and enjoy improved Y-axis performance!
