Makerbot Y-Axis Motor Holder

Makerbot Y-Axis Motor Holder

After about three years of use, my Makerbot 2X's y-axis motor holder suddenly cracked and broke into several pieces, rendering my printer unable to accurately control its movement along the y-axis. As a result, the quality of my prints was non-existent. I felt a sense of disappointment and frustration at this turn of events. To rectify the situation, I designed a new piece using OpenSCAD software and had it printed at school. It is crucial that you print this replacement part in ABS plastic or an even stronger material. My initial attempt to print it with PLA proved disastrous. After only half an hour of printing, the side of the holder touching the motor began to melt due to its extremely high temperature, which was a whopping 130 degrees Celsius. The added weight of the motor caused the holder to warp out of shape, and my prints started dying again. Fortunately, I was able to replace it with one printed in ABS, and so far, it has not exhibited this problem.
