These attach on top of the stock knob that came with my Makerbot Replicator 2. The internal hole allows for easy installation at the end, preventing a tight press fit from the top of the bore, and only the last 2.5mm is pressed in. The bottom of the bore has slight notches, designed to match the knurl on the stock knob. The outside of the knob features a tapered serration, with 20 teeth per revolution. By doing some simple math, one external tooth equals approximately 0.001 inches (since the screw is M3x0.5mm, one turn equals 1/2mm or 0.020 inches). A clever design feature is that these attach using a press fit, but are also captured in place, making it impossible for them to become dislodged and fall off. Photos show version 1 of the design, which required a full press fit into the bore. Version 2 has been improved, with only the bottom of the bore requiring a press fit.
