Makerbot Plastic Spool Holder (w/Bearing)
thingiverse
Similar to other MakerBot enthusiasts, my obsession lies with flexible plastic. Armed with a 16-pack of bearings, I designed a holder that accommodates the specific spools sold by MakerBot. Additionally, my creation utilizes a printable spring (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:21234) and a MakerBot spool holder mashup (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:10463). To replicate, print two spool holders and insert an ABEC 5/608 bearing into each. These bearings can be found at your local sporting goods store in the inline skating section. Next, visit a hardware store for a bolt long enough to secure the spool. If you already possess the MakerBot 1 kg Spool Holder Mashup, attach it to the holder and cut off the spool-holding part. Drill a hole for the bolt and assemble as shown in the picture. Finally, employ the Parameterized printable spring to secure the bearing within its holder by printing a spring long enough to fit inside the spool on the bolt. Smaller springs should be printed to maintain the spool's position on the bolt.
