MakerBot Mars Base Challenge - Early Mars Base Station
thingiverse
HOW IS THE BASE MADE The early mars base station is made up from the same rocket that takes off from earth (with the human occupants) and lands on mars, This specially designed spacecraft carries two or three specially made modules. This module and spacecraft design, minimises unneeded weight at takeoff and the leftover spacecraft at mars. The modules also keeps the cost of the base as low as possible. (During the flight to mars the modules also act as living space) When the spacecraft has landed on mars, the crew disassemble the rocket from the modules, then moves the modules into position and all they need to do now is accessible the legs and the solar panels on top of the modules. As time goes on and more spacecraft are sent to mars, they will bring more advanced modules like, Greenhouses, research, first aid, recreation and vehicles making this the first livable place on mars! SURVIVAL SYSTEMS The solar panels help produce power for the base but they also capture heat and this keeps the occupants in the base warm all year round. Each module has its own carbon filter which helps prevent a high amount of Co2 from building up in the base. At first the occupants will need to rely on a steady stream of food from earth but when the greenhouses get up and running this would then become their main supply of food. In a dust storm the greenhouse automatically sides back into the module preventing the greenhouse from getting smashed from flying debris (all windows are also covered up during this time) All modules have been designed to reflect any radiation during and after the long flight to mars, this helps the occupants stay as healthy as possible. Thanks for reading i hope you like it. (All files can be printed on the makerbot replicators) UPDATE 12/06/14 New Modules: First aid Deep drilling platform (good for collecting core samples) New Vehicles: Heavy lift platform Explorer-excavator And some cool add ons to the mars base: Containers and Drill bits
