In technical terms, the flanged sliding bearing and plastic spacer in my MakerBot kit can be printed as DIY alternatives. While I await the remaining parts, I created STL files for these components in just five minutes of modeling time. Although it's uncertain if printing them is more economical than bulk purchasing, having an infinite supply of adjustable board spacers benefits the RepRap system and provides quick access to spare parts.
