MakerBot Digitizer LaserCat - Layer thickness tests
thingiverse
The test employed the MakerBot Digitizer 3D-scanned Laser Cat model, scaled down to 50 mm in height. It was then printed at various layer thicknesses using a MakerBot Replicator 2 with PLA plastic at 230 degrees Celsius: 0.40 mm, 0.30 mm, 0.20 mm, 0.10 mm (similar to a strand of human hair), 0.05 mm, and 0.02 mm. All prints were done with MakerWare's standard settings: 15% infill and two perimeters at speeds of 90 mm/s, except for the 0.02 mm layer which was printed at 40 mm/s. This test showcased the varying results achieved by altering the layer thickness in 3D printing.
