So, I've set up the digitizer in my classroom, and it looks fantastic when facing forward. However, there are a couple of issues that need to be addressed. The lasers shoot out towards the students as they walk around the room, which is definitely not ideal. Plus, the overhead lighting causes terrible artifacts in scanning, making calibration a real challenge. To solve these problems, I've turned the scanner around to face the wall with a black piece of foam board. This has greatly improved scans and safety, but it doesn't exactly make for a pretty sight. Rather than dealing with an awkward-looking scanner, I decided to get creative and see what I could attach to the back to make it more visually appealing while also letting people know what it is. Boy, am I glad I did! Now when students walk by, they're no longer wondering what that thing is; instead, they're saying, "What's a Digitizer?" It's a huge confidence booster for me. Anyway, I've included two files: one is the base plate that connects to the two screw holes on the back of the digitizer, which you can use as a negative to build your own nameplate and attach it to the device. The other file includes the connecting plate along with a simple "Digitizer" nameplate featuring the Makerbot logo. Feel free to create your own nameplate and share a picture! I was able to connect my base plate to the nameplate without using glue, simply by squeezing them together with a pair of pliers. It's held up so far, but I'm working on a more elaborate sign to put on there.
