MakerBot Caster
thingiverse
This MakerBot-modeled parametric caster is based on OpenSCAD's Printable Key Rings script by catarina. The script allows customization of various features like height, width, and wheel diameter. Echo statements provide approximate mounting heights and bolt lengths. However, the user encountered difficulty in adjusting the wheel base while keeping the embossed profile from the extruded DXF. A .zip file containing the script, code, and DXF files is provided, along with STL files and g-code for printing. The wheel block takes 69 minutes to print, while the wheel takes 23 minutes. Netfabb Studio (basic version available for free) is recommended for managing the generated STL files. Once fabricated, assemble the parts as shown in the photos, possibly with only one wheel. Use washers to reduce contact area and improve movement. Ensure wheels spin freely and the wheel block pivots 360 degrees under the platform. Hot glue rubber strips along wheel perimeters for better traction.
