I designed alternative spool holders for the Makerbot after encountering various issues with its rear spool holders, so I opted to create my own custom versions instead. These new spool holders are easily attachable to the top of the printer and feature a dual-part design: a sturdy truss-based vertical support and a lateral stabilizer for added security. To construct the lateral supports, a half-inch aluminum bar sourced from Home Depot is utilized at a minimal cost of ($5), providing additional stability for the spools themselves. As this marks Version 1 of my creation, I may post an upgraded version in the future which incorporates a new partially enclosed rod holder design as opposed to the current fully enclosed one. My goal was to develop a spool system where the rod can be simply held in place by gentle pressure and effortlessly lifted out for effortless swapping of spools between prints.
