Torn my Achilles tendon? No problem! I'm creating a custom cane for myself - way cooler than those old-people canes. This DIY project lets you personalize it according to your style and mood. The core is an 8mm or 5/16 threaded rod, cut to the right length. For the "beads", use varying lengths to achieve proper sizing. Mix and match colors too! The skull head is from Thingiverse's design (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:163311). The handle can be Sconine's design (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11272) as well. If the default "cane beads" are too tight, opt for the scaled-up "105" version. A category for "accessibility" on Thingiverse is much needed since there are many fantastic ideas for people with disabilities. It's time we stop labeling them as "fashion accessories". To assemble, print a handle and foot, along with however many plates of "beads" you need (each plate covers 50cm; typically 2 plates suffice). Measure from the floor to the crook between your thumb and palm while standing upright for proper cane length. Include the foot's extra centimeter and handle hole depth in your rod-cutting calculations.
