Make your own thread for Novice - simplified

thingiverse

I'm trying to create a thread on SCAD without relying on libraries, but every sample code I find on Thingiverse is too complicated for me to understand because they're all using polyhedrons. So, I started by creating a simple way to draw a thread using linear extrude. Then, I modified the same code to use polyhedron. Linear Extrude was easy to grasp and replicate without needing complex formulas. However, it took 4 minutes for the sample code to render. I tried to simplify the polyhedron formulas as much as possible, but they're still quite unfriendly. Despite this, my sample code using polyhedrons rendered in just 1 minute and 45 seconds. The quality of the output from polyhedron is far superior. Therefore, I'm inclined to conclude that polyhedron wins in this case. Unfortunately, it seems like I have no choice but to learn the more complicated stuff.
