Make Robot with Keychain/Necklace Ring
cults3d
I've been experimenting with lost PLA, pushing its limits to see what it can do. The first challenge we tackled was a half-scale replica of a robot, which serves as our test subject. A colleague suggested adding a ring to the design, making it wearable as jewelry or a necklace, so I incorporated that feature using Meshmixer. The resulting model does have a self-intersection issue at the hands, but fortunately, Skeinforge handles this with ease - I'm not sure about other software's performance in similar situations. Our initial attempts to print the design in PLA resulted in a disappointing mushy blob for the keychain, which isn't exactly what we were aiming for. So, we decided to give ABS a try while the PLA cooling fan upgrade was still printing. More details and pictures will be coming soon, focusing on the casting process. Update: We've added a second model with a loop that prints sideways, taking our experimentation to the next level.
