Hawaiian fishhooks (makau) were made from a variety materials, including bird, pig, and dog bone. The shapes of the hooks were adapted to the types of fish caught and the fishing techniques used. This Traditional Hawaiian artifact comes from Kahalu’u, North Kona, Hawai’i. From the Kamehameha Schools Digital Koehana Collection, recorded with macro-photogrammetry by Interactive Heritage
