Maize, North American Flint Corn
sketchfab
With fewer indentations than dent corn (Zea mays indentata), flint corn earns its name from the complete absence of dents in each kernel. One of three types of corn grown by Native Americans, both in New England and across northern regions, including the Pawnee tribes on the Great Plains. Archaeologists have uncovered evidence of such corn cultivation dating back before 1000 BC in what is now the United States. Corn cultivation occurred hundreds of years earlier among the Mississippian culture people, whose civilization flourished due to population density and trade resulting from surplus corn crops.
