Jean-François Champollion was born in Figeac on December 23, 1790. From his 17th year, he divided his time between the College of France and the School of Oriental Languages. Very quickly, he worked on the inscription of the Rosetta Stone and sorted through hundreds of documents. His knowledge of ancient scripts and languages acquired since adolescence and his uncommon perseverance allowed him to achieve the goal of his life: deciphering the mystery of hieroglyphs.
