Mains Switch Cover

Mains Switch Cover

I've discovered one thing that actually sells - an invention I've developed myself that can't be patented due to a expired patent that already covered the idea. I've made over 100 units, and each cost just 25p to produce while selling well on Ebay for £1. Typically, sales don't go beyond £1. This design isn't intended to safeguard kids from harm; it's aimed at protecting equipment from their curious nature. Its unusual appearance is because I thoroughly researched all types of mains sockets before crafting a versatile model that should fit any available socket. This is version 4 - my previous attempts were less complex but sometimes resulted in returns due to poor fitting, whereas this one has yet to experience such issues. When printing this thin plate, I prefer ABS and PLA colours; it works well with both materials at a 0.3mm layer height, although any layer size should be fine. Simply peel off the support underneath the switch after printing is complete. It was my daughter who first proposed this idea, as she discovered the pleasant clicky sound from mains switches around 6-18 months of age. Although it's not a significant concern for UK-based children, switching equipment plugged into that socket can become an issue. I designed this simple plate to prevent little ones from accessing the switch.
