Main Gear Box, Helicopter Driven By Two Engines The Main Gear Box for a helicopter driven by two engines features a complex gear train inside. To understand this mechanism, I created an internal visible model that illustrates its inner workings. Each actual helicopter design is unique, so the following model serves as a sample. The main features of the MGB include: 1. Two Engine Inputs 2. One Tail Take-Off Output (now positioned on the same side for clarity) 3. Three Stage Reduction (including one planetary gear) and two stage reduction plus one stage increase Note: Due to ease of design and printing, I substituted various gear types in this model. Bevel gears have been replaced with spur gears and face gears, while helical gears are now spur gears. Additionally, clutch and accessory drives are not included at this time. Download files include: * STL Files * Images: Parts Breakdown and Sub-Assembly Photos for Assembly Assistance * Excel File: Parts List with Related Hardware Purchase parts information includes: * Bearings: No metal ball or roller bearings are used. Instead, some grease for plastic is recommended for lubrication. * ABS Tube: Refer to the Parts List * Screws and other components: + Micro screws M1.4x3.5L (five each) - Direct screw-in to 1 mm diameter hole (no nut) + Screws M2 x 6L (twenty each) - Refer to the Parts List + Screw M2 x 25L and Nut + Some Tube for Turning Handle (Optional) Recommended printing parameters using a 0.4mm nozzle: * Gears: 0.2mm Layer Height, 100% infill * Bodies: 0.2mm Layer Height, 40% above infill (for threads) * Raft and Support: Depending on your experience Assembly points require standard skills such as drilling, tapping, filing, tightening, painting, and gluing. Perseverance is also necessary to complete the gear teeth for smooth rotation. Total Net Print Time: Approximately 28 Hours Note: Estimated print time is based on PLA material, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, 40% infill, and no raft or support. Adjust parameters according to your experience during actual printing. Update (September 15, 2017) A new file (Body-Mid901.stl) and related photos have been added to return the "Tail Take-Off Output" to its original position.
