Mailbox Z-Wave Sensor Housing
thingiverse
This is a custom housing I created for a standard open/close Z-Wave sensor that works seamlessly with most home automation systems. The specific model it fits is the GoControl Z-Wave Door/Window Sensor - WADWAZ-1. It snaps into place perfectly, and the lid attaches securely using 3mm shaft screws that are no longer than 10mm in length. I mounted this housing to the bottom of my metal mailbox outside using 3M VHB tape. The sensor was previously installed inside the mailbox, but the close signal would sometimes get lost due to the RF interference caused by the metal. To resolve this issue, I drilled a hole in the housing to route the wires for an external open/close switch. I then sealed up the hole with a small amount of silicone. This design makes it relatively simple to change batteries, which are only required every 1.5 to 2 years. Everything is working smoothly now, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
