Mailbox Geocache
thingiverse
I had a request for a mailbox-shaped geocache container and came up with this. It's a remix, blending two already existing models by others, with some visual and structural changes. I referenced both models so the OPs get credit for their work. The original mailbox object is from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:681260, Tiny Mail mailbox, by Gizmoticist. I added a non-working flap door, with block handle at the top and various internal changes to support the new container section. The internal container is from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1777225, Waterproof beach storage tube, by KostjaXx, but the closure is modified to eliminate the provision for a gasket and a short cylindrical insert added to extend the male threads so they'll properly engage the female threads. The container is rigidly integrated into the mailbox body with internal supports at the top and an internal gusset where it penetrates the box bottom. I printed the entire object at X1.5 to produce a finished product about 2.5" square and just under 6" tall. At that scale the cache cavity is approximately 1-1/8" in diameter and 2" deep with the cap installed. The body can be printed on its side with one of the open sides on the bed, without supports. The bottom of the cylinder outer and inner surfaces and threads are subject to sagging but the inner surface and threads are easily cleaned and the outer is concealed when assembled. I printed with a 1.2 mm shell so there's plenty of "meat" in the container walls, overkill perhaps but the finished item is reasonably stout. The mailbox frames and side plates are unchanged from the OP's original mailbox design; as noted by the OP the frames require supports. I printed from PLA and used cyanoacrylate gel to assemble the parts. the remix was done in Tinkercad.
