Asian MahJong originated in China where it's commonly known as the sparrow in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. This ancient game was invented by the Chinese people who crafted a small long square made of bamboo, bone or plastic. The square is engraved with patterns or words. Northern mahjong has 136 tiles while Southern mahjong boasts more than 8 cards representing the seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter, along with plum, bamboo and blue chrysanthemum. Four Bones Play remains a popular pastime in Chinese cultural circles where assets are clean and easy to use.
