Magni-Card-A (Magnifying Glass Object Holder)
thingiverse
My daughter is midway through her Occupational Therapy Assisting program and was tasked with designing an adaptive technology that would assist people with disabilities. With a 99-year-old great-grandmother in mind who still enjoys playing cards despite failing eyesight, she thought of creating a holder for the trump card. Since I had the skills and a 3D printer, I volunteered both to ensure it wasn't a cardboard and tape production. Perhaps someone will find this useful for something else as well. The clamp fits a CARSON FreeHand LED Magnifier, 2.5x/5x, found at Office Depot, and attaches in a way that allows the stand to close and the light switch to turn on and off. This could be used for more than just holding a trump card. With a small alligator clip or other attachments, it could provide help in holding and magnifying small things being soldered, glued, or otherwise worked on. I made one of the holding arms in two parts so that designing new holders would use less plastic and be swapable. The holding arms were designed to use this thing to hold the card because it worked and I had one lying around: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:635200 My time and PLA went into designing this thing, and if this design blesses your life in some way, feel free to favor me with a tip as thanks. Gratuities are not required but are definitely appreciated. You can tip me any amount that you would like here: https://www.paypal.me/brysonjack Make sure to include a comment telling me which design it is. Thanks in advance. Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Maker Select v2.1 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 25% Notes: The clamps for the handle were printed at .1mm, and the back clamp was printed upside down like I have it in the .stl file. The rest of the parts can be printed .2mm or whatever you prefer. Post-Printing: You will need a hobby knife and needle file set to clean up the print and get the clamp to fit together. Don't force things, or it may break. File until it joins together without much effort. Hold the front clamp in place and then slide the back clamp down over the top of the front clamp. You will need 2 bolts and 2 wingnuts for assembly. We used (2) #6-32 Stainless Steel Standard (SAE) Forged Wing Nuts and (2) #6-32 x 3/4 inch bolts, both by Hillman, from Lowes.
