Magnetite is a ubiquitous iron oxide mineral that pervades igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. It stands as the most widely extracted ore of iron, boasting an impressive 72.4% iron content. Identifying magnetite is remarkably straightforward. Among its distinguishing characteristics is a unique affinity for magnets; it's one of a select few minerals drawn to a standard magnet. Its appearance is equally distinctive: a black, opaque mineral that ranges in hardness from 5 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale. Magnetite often manifests as isometric crystals, and it holds the distinction of being the most strongly magnetic mineral known to exist naturally. https://www.mindat.org/min-2538.html https://geology.com/minerals/magnetite.shtml
