Magnetic Steel Sheet Holder

This is a wall mountable magnetic steel sheet holder. Basic design using a rubber coated magnet removed from a magnetic parts holder.

Print instructions

I am always looking for ways to organize and save space in my personal maker area at home. For each of my printers I have a smooth and textured steel sheet. I wanted somewhere to safely keep the sheets without taking up bench space. That is how I came up with this holder. This is a very simple print and only requires 4 screws and a magnet from a 4" magnetic parts tray that is usually sold at most automotive stores. For reference the actual magnet size is 62 mm and about 11mm thick. The parts trays I have been using come from Harbor Freight and with a coupon can be acquired for less than $1 each (regular price is under $3). I went with this because you will want a rubber coated magnet so that you do not scratch the finish on your sheets. These parts trays are common and much cheaper than other available rubber coated magnets this size. Simply print the design, remove the magnet from the parts tray (this may take a pair of pliers and completely destroying the tray to get the magnet to release because of adhesive they use.) The magnet normally has a little rubber rim around the bottom you will want to shave off with a blade so that it will fit into the hole of the print properly. I use a little super glue in the bottom and around the edges. The magnet is a perfect fit.

I have used a MK3S and Prusa Mini both to print these. .4 tip and I did 15% infill. These were printed with Prusament orange petg but pla will work fine. The screws you use will depend on what you are mounting them to, but I used a 1 5/8" wood screw for these. The screw heads recess into the print so that nothing can scratch the plate.

In the pictures you will see a picture of the finished product and how the sheets attach. I also show an example of the parts tray and then the parts tray with the magnet removed.
