Some users were experiencing issues where the central post of the original base was becoming soft (PLA) due to heat from the LEDs. Two new versions of the base have been uploaded - one with a thicker (10mm) post, and another with a hole sized for a 3/8" dowel stick cut to whatever length is needed. The hole will need to be glued to the base (Superglue, Hot Glue or Epoxy should work). Please note that these two new versions are larger in diameter than the original post, so users will need to use non-waterproof LED strips in order to fit through the flange. Waterproof LED strips have a thick silicone coating. Test prints for both versions were successful. The thicker post initially softened (I was using 3 outer layers and 35% infill) but after several rounds of turning it on till it softened then turning it off till it cooled, it seems to have fixed the issue and now I can leave it on without it softening anymore. Perhaps the rounds of heat annealed / heat treated the PLA? The stand includes a collar and base with recesses for magnets (optional). Alternatively, it can just rest on top of the base or be glued together if users don't care about accessing the LEDs in the future. When slicing the moon, I lowered the Z height into the build plate by about 3mm from the default Cura positioning. This gives a hole in the bottom of the moon roughly the size needed (20mm) for the collar to be glued into place. The hole on the bottom of the moon can be trimmed to the right size after printing with an X-Acto knife, and the collar fits into the hole and is glued with super glue, hot glue or epoxy. If users don't lower the moon like I did in the slicer that's fine, but they will need to make a hole in the bottom of the moon of about 20mm (start a little smaller and trim to fit) so the collar will fit snugly. The LED light strip used is 5V USB and includes a picture of where it was sourced. The adhesive on the LED strip won't stick well on its own, users will need to glue or epoxy the light strip down most likely (I just wrapped mine with clear tape for testing). The magnets are 5mm x 3mm and can be found on eBay for a couple bucks if users want to use them. The uploaded version is slightly altered from my prototype (original tolerances were too tight and required a lot of trimming / sanding to fit, I opened up the tolerances a little so it should fit together easier). The center post is 115mm tall, so it should work with the 6-8" moon lamp sizes, possibly the 5" version but I haven't tried it. Since printers have different tolerances, the sizes have been updated so the collar and base fit together much easier. Please re-download if users got the old version on Dec 29th, it should help. Thank you for the feedback and support!
