I designed a brand new ruler mount that fixes the flaws of its predecessor. This one is significantly more efficient because it lets you attach your ruler magnetically. A 20mm diameter magnet with a thickness of 3mm works perfectly - you can get those here. There's a small hole in this mount that enables you to stick it on any wall, door, or other surface.
