Magnetic Rubik's Cube
thingiverse
Rubik's Cube comprising of 27 independent cubes, held together by magnetic forces. Inspired by xkcd 2049. This cube should be close to standard dimensions. You will need: * 1 central core * 6 center pieces * 12 edge pieces * 8 corner pieces * 54 faces - each in 6 different colors (9 per color) * 12 large magnets, 10mm x 2mm * 96 small magnets, 5mm x 2mm * glue for assembly You can find the necessary magnets on eBay at a reasonable price. It's recommended to print with supports and high resolution. You can either print the faces in each color or paint them into their recesses. The faces should be printable either way up (with a 45-degree overhang) depending on your preference. Using magnetic forces to connect the faces could be a challenge, though. Note: I haven't built this cube myself yet, so I'm not sure if my tolerances are suitable or if it actually works.
