Magnetic Rota Board Game

Special thanks to Devin Montes, creator of the Make Anything YouTube channel, for producing an excellent video https://youtu.be/2df5ss5HqjI that introduced me to this engaging little game and made it easy to make. He cleverly utilized hobby magnets in his project, which adds a fun and satisfying element as the game pieces snap into place. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel for an abundance of instructional videos. You can also download his original design from the links provided in the video above. I created this model in Fusion360 based on Devin's innovative design. To achieve a smooth finish on the visible surfaces, I print the board and game pieces face down. I used 6mm x 3mm magnets and embedded them into the board (see cross-section analysis). Make sure your slicer stops printing when it reaches the top of the magnet so that you can insert them; then resume printing. The filament changes and magnet covering layers occur at 1.2mm, 2.8mm, and 5.8mm. Feel free to redesign the holes for the magnets if you don't find the correct size ones. You will need six game pieces: print three of any color and the other three a different color. Also, the inlaid game markings are printed with a different color. While it's not necessary, doing so adds a nice touch. Rota Game Rules: 1. In each turn, players can place one piece on the board in any open spot. 2. After all three pieces are on the board, a player must move one piece each turn. 3. A piece may move along any line or curving edge of the circle to the next empty spot. 4. A piece cannot jump over other pieces nor move more than one spot. 5. The first person to get three in a row wins.
