A friend approached me with a unique request: create a custom phone grip that can be attached to gym equipment using strong magnets. The goal is to use this innovative grip as a base for a fitness tracking system, allowing users to track their heart rate and take photos/videos while working out. This design is centered around using silicone or grippy spongy material as an insert, ensuring the phone remains secure without the need for additional reinforcement like hockey tape. The desired outcome includes three main functions: attaching the grip to the bottom of a phone, using it as a table stand, and utilizing the magnetic base to hold the phone vertically on gym equipment. For this project, I'll be starting with a design tailored to the Samsung Alpha (measuring 65.5 mm in width). The following updates will take place in future revisions: 1. **Design Update**: Adjusting the dimensions for optimal fit. 2. **Magnetic Installation**: Creating precise holes for magnets to secure the grip. 3. **Second Iteration** (V2): - Wider hole to accommodate a broader range of phones. - Slimmer band design for increased flexibility. - Smaller nubs to comfortably cradle phones. - A more rounded edge profile. 4. **Printing Instructions**: - Scale the design up or down as needed. - Print using a material with sufficient strength (like ABS), and consider a 40% infill or higher for added durability.
