Magnetic Knife Strip Template

Revise your magnetic knife strip using our template for easy layout! Print the template with registration pins at 20% infill and 0.27 layer height. To make your knife strip, gather these materials: a 4" x 1/4" x 24" planed oak strip cut to about 18 inches (our template is designed for this width), 60-80 1/4" wide and 1/8" deep neodymium disc magnets from Magcraft, a drill press with a 1/4" Forsner bit and countersink bits, Loctite Gel Control Super Glue or a 2-part epoxy, mineral oil for finishing, fine-grit sandpaper, and brass wood screws. Align the left edge of the template with your strip of wood, and use a sharpie to mark each hole you want to drill. Choose between continuing to mark holes on the board or using registration pins for accuracy. Ensure magnets are just below the surface of the wood to prevent knife scratching. Test your drill press setup with a few magnets before drilling all holes. Add mounting holes, sand and finish the strip with mineral oil, then apply magnets in alternating rows, being mindful of polarity. With this template-guided method, you can create an attractive, functional magnetic knife strip for around $50 and a few hours' work.
